How We’re Keeping Our Students Safe During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Your child’s safety has always been our top priority. Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic in full effect, our safety procedures matter more than ever. You still need safe, quality childcare, and now you need childcare with a detailed health and hygiene plan.

The Legacy Academy team understands your health and safety concerns. At Legacy Chapel Hill, we’ve put a multi-faceted safety plan into place to help protect our families from the COVID-19 pandemic. All of our new standards come directly from the CDC and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the changes we’ve made.

Social Distancing Procedures

Social distancing is one of the most important ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19. When social distancing and mask-wearing are used at the same time, the risk of COVID-19 spreading goes down significantly. The CDC recommends maintaining a distance of six feet away from people who are not members of your household.

At Legacy Chapel Hill, we’ve established several measures to increase #socialdistancing. For instance, we follow NCDHHS recommendations for classroom capacity, leaving enough room to keep distance between students. Our water park remains closed for the time being, and during nap time, we make sure that nap mats and cribs remain at least six feet apart from one another.

We’ve also made changes to our pickup and drop-off procedures. We’ve set up a designated waiting area at the front of the school, providing enough space for social distancing. We ask that parents wait at the designated area instead of going to their children’s classrooms for pickup and drop-off. A designated staff member will walk your child to their classroom when you drop them off and walk them back to you when you pick them up.

Temporary Halt to Family-Style Dining

Under normal circumstances, we love family-style dining at Legacy Academy. For now, however, we’ve put our family-style dining practices on hiatus for the safety of our students and their families. To maintain protection against COVID-19, students eat in their classrooms while keeping a safe distance from their fellow students. Our teachers help students maintain this distance as they eat. While we look forward to the day when we can bring back all of the benefits of family-style dining, again, the safety of our students will always come first.

Hygiene Procedures

In addition to social distancing procedures, we’ve implemented specific hygiene procedures for COVID-19 prevention. First, all of our instructors and staff members wear masks, and parents are highly encouraged to wear masks as well. Again, the combination of masks and social distancing works best for coronavirus prevention.

Our staff members also use a specific procedure for cleaning their hands each time they enter the building.

We’ve modified our sign-in procedure to limit contact with high-touch surfaces.

Finally, we maintain a thorough cleaning and disinfecting process for all of our surfaces, as recommended by the CDC.

Keeping COVID-19 Out of Our Building

The Legacy Academy Chapel Hill team is doing everything in its power to keep the COVID-19 virus out of our building. First, we’ve limited our entrances for the time being. Parents and non-mandatory visitors are restricted to using the front door only. Our staff also assesses everybody who enters the building, checking for COVID-19 symptoms before allowing entry.

What You Can Do

During these unprecedented times, we must all work together to keep our children safe. As a parent, you can help us protect the Legacy family from the #COVID-19 pandemic. Most importantly, we ask that you keep an eye out for #coronavirus symptoms in your home, and keep your child home from school if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to the virus.
